3 In those days John the Baptist came into the wilderness^[a] of Judea proclaiming, ²“Repent,^[b] for the kingdom of heaven is near.”

Matthew 3:1 tn Or “desert.”
Matthew 3:2 tn Grk “and saying, ‘Repent.’” The participle λέγων (legōn) at the beginning of v. 2 is redundant in English and has not been translated.
